AP Biology Summer Reading

Dear AP Biology Student,

Thank you for choosing to take AP ABiology! Because AP Biology is a college-level course, it is essential that we get a head start on our curriculum to ensure we have ample time to master all the content. To help you prepare, I am asking you to complete two reading assignments over the summer break. To get the most out of your reading, I highly recommend outlining the information as you go. This strategy encourages you to slow down and truly comprehend each complex concept. Specifically, you are required to complete the reading guides for the chapters listed. Please note that these outlines will be checked for completion and recorded as your first homework grades of the year.

The goal of this summer assignment is to:

• Ease your transition into the rigor of an AP course.
• Re-engage your mind after the summer break.
• Reduce your stress when we return in August by building a solid foundation now.

Please do not wait until the night before school starts to begin this work—it is comprehensive, and you will not be able to finish it in one night. I have provided suggested timeframes to help you manage your schedule effectively.

August 17-21:

___ Read Chapter 1 pages 1-24 in the textbook and complete the corresponding Reading Guide. This is an introductory chapter on the themes of the class which should build upon what you learned in your previous Biology class.  This assignment will be collected on September 2 or 3.

August 24-28:

___Read Chapter 2 pages 28-41 in the textbook and complete the corresponding Reading Guide. This chapter introduces chemistry concepts necessary to understand biology.  This assignment will be collected September 8 or 9.

___Check out Google Classroom when classes are populated.  I will post some supplemental videos to support your reading.
